WALKING HOLIDAYS.
Prades
is
superbly located for walking holidays. There is a wide choice of walks
to be enjoyed, ranging from long challenging walks, such as climbing to
the top of Mount Canigou, to shorter and easier ones. With the wealth
of local interesting places to visit, the walking enthusiast will be in
their element.
We can
organise and accompany you on these walks (at the fees quoted on the
page, "Room
Rates and Other Services",)
Below, we have listed some of the walks you might like to do. We have
provided an indication of terrain and length of walk.
- CANIGOU....climb
to the summit. This can be done in a
couple of ways. The easy way is to hire a 4 x 4 vehicle to take you
half way up (cost is up to 25€ per return trip - 2007 prices)
and
then walk/climb to the top. This will take up to 2 - 3 hours at an easy
pace. However, this is quite a tough walk. Or, try the two
day
trip. This means you walk the route of the 4 x 4 and stay
overnight at the Refuge at . There is a charge for the stay
and
more for the meals. (2008 prices on request). This is much tougher than
the easy way!!!! Or, for the really adventurous why not try
to do
the whole walk in just one day. There are a couple of options,
one
leaving from and returning to Vernet-les-Bains, another route from the
village of Fillols.
- L'ABBAYE
DE SAINT-MARTIN-DU-CANIGOU....There
are a couple of options for this destination. You could take a whole
day with a circuitous route from Vernet-les-Bains or go up and down in
1 - 2 hours. In season, visitors can have a guided tour of the Abbaye.
- L'ABBAYE
DE SAINT-MICHEL-DE CUXA....Again, a couple of options for
this walk but a couple of hours should be enough. In season, visitors
can have a guided tour of the Abbaye.
- LA
CHAPELLE SAINT-CHRISTOPHE
(Ria)....This is a walk with several possibilities. One is to park at
Ria and follow the track for about an hour (a liitle more perhaps
depending on your speed). Another is to take the long track from Prades
itself. This will take perhaps twice the time. For the adventurous, you
can keep going after Saint Christophe to....
- FURTHER WALKS ARE CURRENTLY BEING WRITTEN UP!
